Wig Care and Wig Styling
Washing your wig:
- If your wig is a straight style wig, then whilst holding your wig gently brush out the tangles, brushing in the direction of the hair from the wig cap to the roots
- Next, mix tepid water with a mild wig shampoo in a sink or washing up bowl
- Immerse the wig in the water, gently swirl the wig around in the water and then let the wig soak for approx. 2 minutes
- Gently rinse the wig in cold water until all of the wig shampoo is removed
- Using clean luke warm water apply a small amount of wig conditioner to the wig, gently massaging it in to the fibres
- Gently rinse the wig in cold water until all of the wig conditioner is removed
- To dry your wig, Wrap it in a towel and gently pat out excess water. It is essential that you DO NOT TWIST OR BRUSH YOUR WIG WHILE WET, if you do you are likely to cause irreparable damage to the wig fibres.
- Gently fluff up your damp wig
- Allow to air dry on a wig stand
- Once your wig is dry finish by applying wig fibre oil conditioner, wig hairspray or gelspray.
Remember you should never twist or brush your wig when it's wet. Never use heated appliances (including hair dryers or straightening irons) on your wig, and Never ring out your wig when it's wet!
Styling your wig:
Experiment with your wig style to get the look that's right for you. Trying to get every hair in place can make your style look " wiggy ". Many of our Wigs just need a good shake and they're ready to wear, but some styles may need a bit more effort - always use a good quality wig brush or wig pick comb. A regular comb or brush will stretch the wig fibres and loosen the curl.
To finish your style, hold it in place, and use wig styling spray. If you wish to create a more textured and natural look, spray the wig with water then brush it through gently to get a modern effect. Never use regular hair spray, styling gels, and mousse. You may not feel quite right about the look of your wig the first time you see it on. So, take a few days to get used to seeing the "new you". Walk past a mirror a few times, ask a close friend or family member to give you their opinion.
Specific wig styling tips:
Q. I've got a straight wig what do you recommend i do to it to keep it looking nice?
A. A straight wig is generally very easy to maintain. Simply brush it lightly with a wig brush or wig comb from the crown through to the roots
Q. What is the easiest way to style my layered/flip tip style wig?
A. Use a wig pick to section the layers and flick them out, when brushing you should be very gentle. Use short upward strokes brushing away from your face - this will add maximum volume and texture to the wig
Q. Is there anything i can do to style my curly wig?
A. You should NEVER brush a curly wig, if you do the curls will lose their structure and the wig will just look a mess. We recommend that for a curly wig, you gently shake it (upside down), then using a wig pick or your fingers gently lift and separate out the curls
Q. How do you style a wavy wig with looser curls?
A. The styling for a wavy wig is similar to styling a layered wig - you should brush it lightly with short upwards stokes, but be careful not to over brush
